TECHNICAL Bulletin No.: 10-06-04-009B Date: June 22, 2011 Subject: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated, Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 2, Sensor 2 Pigtail Harness Wire Rubbing, Chaffing on Top of Frame Rail, DTC P0056, P0060, P013C, P013D, P014A, P014B, P0157, P0158, P0160, P0161, P0430, P2272 or P2273 Set (Replace O2 Sensor (if Needed), Add Anti-Abrasion Electrical Tape) Models: 2007-2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500 HD 2007-2011 GMC Sierra 2500, 3500 HD All Equipped with 6.0L Engine (RPOs LY6, L96) Please Refer to GMVIS Supercede: This bulletin is being revised to add the 2011 model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 10-06-04-009A (Section 06 - Engine/Propulsion System). Condition Some customers may comment that the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is illuminated. Upon further investigation, one or more of the following DTCs may be set: - P0056 - P0060 - P013C - P013D - P014A - P014B - P0157 - P0158 - P0160 - P0161 - P0430 - P2272 - P2273 During diagnosis of the bank 2 sensor 2 O2 sensor, there may be evidence of the sensor pigtail wires chaffing along the top of the frame rail, near the pigtail connector. Cause The routing of the O2 sensor pigtail could allow the pigtail wires, which are exposed beyond the protective sheathing, to contact the frame rail. Correction Important If any evidence of chaffing or rubbing has occurred on the O2 sensor pigtail wires as described above, do not attempt to repair the wires. Replace the O2 sensor and add anti-abrasion electrical tape using the following procedure. Note This repair requires a unique anti-abrasion electrical tape from Kent Automotive. Refer to the Parts Information below. 1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI. 2. Inspect the bank 2 sensor 2 O2 sensor pigtail harness for signs of rubbing or chaffing of the wires near the pigtail connector (insert (1)). - If the pigtail harness shows signs of rubbing or chaffing, install a new O2 sensor by continuing with step 3. - If no abrasion is evident, follow normal diagnosis in SI. Refer to Engine Controls and Fuel - 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L in SI. Important If diagnosis determines the O2 sensor not to be the cause, continue with step 3 to add anti-abrasion tape to the existing O2 sensor pigtail to prevent chaffing of the harness. 3. Remove the bank 2 sensor 2 O2 sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 2 (2500 Series) in SI. 4. Obtain "*Woven Polyester (PET) Electrical Tape" (Special Order P/N RZ97156A00) from Kent Automotive. Refer to Parts Information below. Important DO NOT substitute with vinyl electrical tape or friction tape. Use only the tape specified above. 5. Wrap the specified tape around the connector end of the O2 sensor pigtail to provide additional protection for the area encircled. Ensure that the abrasion tape is applied in a double layer from the base of the connector, and extending along the pigtail for 180 mm (7 in). 6. Install the O2 sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 2 (2500 Series) in SI. 7. Inspect the harness to ensure that the pigtail wires of the O2 sensor are adequately protected from direct contact with the frame rail (1), with the added anti-abrasion tape.
